My Favorite Part of Disney: The Music pt.1

I imagine that it has become quite clear by now that I find many aspects of the Disney princess franchise problematic. For my two supplemental posts this week, I decide to focus on some aspects of Disney movies that I actually really enjoy; I admit that some messages in the films are pretty decent, and I love when those messages are portrayed through songs. Here are a couple of my favorite Disney songs and lyrics. See my next blog post for a couple more!

The Little Mermaid – Part of Your World
“I don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad”
“I want to be where the people are”
“Legs are required for jumping and dancing”
“Up where they stay all day in the sun”
“Betcha on land they understand”
“What’s a fire and why does it, what’s the word, burn?”
“When’s it my turn?”

Pocahontas – Colors of the Wind (Okay... I actually adore this song. Pocahontas is so problematic in so many ways, but this song is amazing and I know every word)
“How can there be so much that you don’t know?”
“You think you own whatever land you land on, the earth is just a dead thing you can claim. But I know every rock and tree and creature, has a life, has a spirit, has a name.”
“You think the only people who are people are the people who look and think like you” (BEST line of any Disney song ever, in my opinion… what a wonderful challenge to his way of life)
“You can own the earth and still all you’ll own is Earth until you can paint with all the colors of the wind”
